The objective of the game is to make the best hand of five cards from the seven dealt and the player with the highest 5-card hand wins the game. All the players initially put in an ante after which the dealer starting from his/her left deal three cards to each player. Out of these three cards, two are dealt face down and these cards are called the pocket or hole cards. The third card is dealt face up.
The player having the lowest face-up card starts with the betting, which is known as “bring in”. The players to the left of the lowest card player continue betting. All players can raise, call or fold cards after having seen their hole cards as well. Once the betting is over, the dealer deals another face-up card to all the players. This card is called the “turn” or the “fourth street”.
The betting continues after the “fourth street”, this time with the player having the highest face-up card. After this round, the player having the highest card gets the opportunity to be the first to place his bet. Once the betting after the “fourth street” is complete, the fifth card, called the “river” or “Fifth Street” is dealt. This is again a face up card. More betting continues, after which the sixth card and further betting continues.
The last and final card is dealt to the players remaining in the game. This card is a face down card after which the final betting round occurs. At showdown all players show their hands. The player with the best five-card hand wins the game.
